BTU is how much heat the unit can pull out of a room per hour. More BTU means more cooling power. As a rough guide in Curaçao: 12.000 BTU for a bedroom up to about 20 m², 18.000 up to 30 m², 24.000 up to 40 m² and 36.000 for big open spaces. They're the refrigerant gas inside the system. R32 is the newer one: it cools more efficiently and has a much lower impact on the climate.
